Ultrasound imaging is an important addition to our radiographic apparatus. It enables us to have a better picture of what is happening inside your pet. With ultrasound imaging we can identify and diagnose conditions that we otherwise would not be able to. It is also very useful in the management of pregnancies.
Most ultrasounds are performed on conscious animals but a mild sedation is sometimes required. The procedure is non invasive and non painful. The animals usually remain calm and quiet. The hair on the belly is clipped to obtain a better image and ultrasonic gel is applied to improve the quality of the ultrasound. The procedure takes from 10-30 minutes.
Complicated cases might need to be referred to a specialist for a second opinion with a machine that produces more refined images.
